Southern Cross University is located within the youthful, vibrant city of Lismore in the region known as New South Wales. Surrounded by rainforests and beaches, this campus offers an unforgettable experience with access to environmental and cultural opportunities that you can’t get anywhere else. On the campus of 6,000 students, you will not only have access to topline academic and research units, outstanding international support, and local hotspots such as Byron Bay, but other unique offerings such as the on-campus koala sanctuary.
The First Year Experience program at Australia requires students to take an introduction course in the fall semester prior to spending spring semester abroad.
Lismore offers a wealth of art galleries for visitors and locals alike to explore. A good example would be the Aboriginal Art Gallery where visitors can learn about the Aboriginal culture of the traditional land owners of the Lismore area, the Bundjalung People, through the artwork they’ve created.
Australia in general has amazing outdoor opportunities, but Lismore in particular boasts the nearby rain forest which is recognized as a World Heritage Site. Hiking opportunities are also abundant in the nearby Nimbin area.
Other nearby attractions include Byron Bay, a popular surfing destination for travelers, locals, and backpackers alike. The beach is noted for whale watching and other significant wildlife.
Students will live in University sponsored apartment housing within walking distance to Southern Cross. In addition, students will share these apartments with other exchange and study abroad students from around the world. Their residential life program is designed to create a living situation that will help students in all aspects of their study abroad experience.
