Biomedical Science students are encouraged to partake in a one-of-a-kind, short-term education abroad program in Croatia. In collaboration with the University of Rijeka, students will take two biology courses, while also exploring the ecosystem and cultural aspects of Croatia. Students will be integrated into the local community by being paired with Croatian students, and take classes taught by Croatian professors. Several days dedicated to learning outside of the classroom will allow students to explore many popular locations in Croatia including: krk klandi waterfalls and much more!

The courses BIOL 390: Public Health Issues in Croatia and U.S. and BIOL 494: Pathophysiology will be completed during this program. Collaborative learning with Croatian peers will allow students to compare and contrast the differences between the United States and Croatia in areas of socioeconomic, cultural, ecological, health and medical issues, and more.

The majority of time will be spent in the coastal city of Rijeka, Croatia, no more than half a mile from the shoreline, where students will live and study. Students will get to explore Krk Island, one of Croatia’s most sought after vacation destinations. Students will be surrounded by stunning views and beautiful waterfalls, as they venture through Plitvice National Park. Another excursion will take students to the capital of Zagreb where they will see many historic sights and museums.

Students will live in residence halls at the University of Rijeka.
