Join the Global Village where students are able to fully immerse themselves in Korean culture and earn a $3,000 scholarship for their active participation. The village is housed in the dormitories where international and local students study language courses and take other elective classes. While participating in this program, SCSU students conduct weekly English-language tutoring sessions and cultural activities with Korean students in exchange for their help with Korean language and culture. Global Village is located in the beautiful city of Wonju, nestled in green, rolling mountains and bordered by a lake. Wonju is about an hour train ride from the vibrant city of Seoul.
Note: Program only accepts 5 students a semester.
Please contact the Education Abroad Office if you have any questions
To participate in this program, students must take 6 credits of Korean Language & Culture. Students choose another 6-9 credits that can either fulfill major/general or goal area requirements at Saint Cloud State University. Students should meet with an advisor in the Education Abroad office to review course options. The credits earned at Global village will transfer back to St. Cloud State University. The College of Business has developed an outline of electives for the Global Village courses and their equivalents at SCSU (HBS_Global Village Equivalency Guide.pdf)
Students can easily take the fast train to Seoul for a weekend excursion, a vibrant city with interesting palaces, museums, restaurants, and night life. In addition, Global Village is located in the beautiful Chiak Mountain region and there are numerous beaches on the East Sea coast. Wonju is one of the most famous tourist attractions in Korea.
SCSU students are housed in dormitories with two to three Korean students. Fostering a true sense of community is one of the primary goals of the Global Village Program.
