Located in the federal state of Bavaria, Eichstätt is a small town that attracts students and tourists from all over Germany. One of the main attractions, the Willibaldsburg, is a breath-taking castle built in the 1300s that was converted into a residence. Many people enjoy seeing the various Jura houses, which are traditional and colorful buildings made of brick and limestone.  Eichstätt is small university town that has an intriguing history while welcoming students to come and experience its thriving culture. Students are immersed in the German language and culture and the program is designed to help students become proficient in both written and spoken German.

There will be an orientation for incoming students upon arrival to Eichstätt, and students will also have the option to take an intensive German language course prior to the start of the semester. This course is highly recommended. While abroad, students will be full-time status and earn up to 18 credits taught at the university. These courses can include literature, German civilization, grammar, and history.  Students should meet with an advisor in the Education Abroad office to review course options.  The credits earned at Eichstätt will all transfer back to St. Cloud State University.

A listing of courses taught in English can be found

The Altmühl Nature Park surrounds Eichstätt and is known for cycling, canoeing, and hiking. The large cathedral and amazing scenery both draw in many tourists every year. The Altmühl River runs through the city, creating a gorgeous scenic view visible through much of Eichstätt. Willibaldsburg, which is the fortified palace in Eichstätt, is one of the major attractions of the city. The botanical garden at Willibaldsburg is a gorgeous venue which draws people from far and wide to view the pavilions and fountains. The city of Eichstätt sponsors festivals all year long, all of which are within walking distance. Students can also go to Ingolstadt which is just a short 25 minute train ride.

SCSU students stay in dorm-style housing with German and other international students. All housing is within walking distance to the university. Students will have their own individual room with access to a shared kitchen, bathroom, and laundry facility.
