Overview

The Spain Short-term, 4 week Program takes place in a beautiful City of Salamanca, where the oldest university in Spain is located. Salamanca is truly a college town, located close to Madrid and Portugal. Salamanca has a long tradition as a destination for students. It is a very safe and friendly place to study abroad. Salamanca is best known for its Renaissance architecture and amazing food. Students will take classes at MESTER- a very reputable Language School that has been in business for over 25 years and has successfully worked with many US Universities. MESTER has a team of highly qualified and committed language educators, who use effective teaching methods and modern technology to facilitate language acquisitions. Students will be placed in classrooms according to their proficiency level- everyone will be accommodated. All study abroad participants will take Spanish 110 (taught in English), which will be focused on various aspects of Spanish culture. There will also be cultural and social activities every afternoon/evening including: excursions, salsa dancing lessons, tapas tours, and visiting historical monuments.

Academics

MESTER Language School offers a variety of language courses for different proficiency levels. Therefore, there is NO proficiency requirement. Even true beginners, who do not know any Spanish, can start their language acquisition in Salamanca. Upon taking a placement test, students will be placed in their respective classrooms , where they will have language, grammar, culture, literature, and writing classes. MESTER also offers special content courses for advanced learners: tourism, business, pharmacy, and much more!
 

Attractions


In addition to academics, there will be many extracurricular activities:
  • Excursions to Madrid, Segovia, Avila, and Santiago de Compostela
  • Visits to museums, walking tours, cooking workshops, a visit to Civil War Archives, tapas tours. and many other social events
Salamanca is located in the heart of Spain and its streets combine ancient history with modern day living. Visitors can find a variety of attractions in Salamanca including: catherdals, shopping boutiques and live entertainment in the Plaza Major.
 


Housing


Students will be able to stay with a host family or in small residential halls. Host families are carefully selected and all of them have an extensive experience with international students. Three daily meals will be provided, weekly laundry service is also included. MESTER offers its own Residence with shared rooms and bathrooms. Each room has its own TV and computer. Rooms have Wi-Fi and AC. Laundry services are also offered as well as full board to a restaurant nearby.
