Program Description:



While participating in this program you will be able to see and experience what others only dream of in Ghana, all while earning credits to be applied to your major, minor, or university electives. In addition to traditional sightseeing, this program will include lectures, discussions, written and photographic assignments, journal keeping, and participation in selected cultural or community activities.

CMTY 410/510: Asset Building to Community Development: A Study of Ghana

This course offers opportunities for students to acquire in-depth, first-hand knowledge and experience of how culture, tourism, development, and globalization impact the lives of people and communities in Ghana and other African countries in general. By the end of this program, students will better understand Ghanaian culture, people, and development issues related to environment, poverty, traditions, community roles, education, and economy.


The Ghana Summer program is an action packed tour around some of Ghana’s most renowned cities and monuments.  Visits to the local attractions will be complimented by a series of academic lectures and tours.

Students will stay in prearranged hotel accommodations throughout the trip.

  • Freshman status or above
  • GPA of 2.0 or higher
  • Open to all majors
  • Students should first apply with SCSU online
