St. Cloud State University is offering higher education master's students the opportunity to study in Macerata, Italy at the University of Macerata. Established in 1290, the University of Macerata (UNIMC) is the second-oldest university in Italy and will be the home base during the two-week program. In addition to taking classes at UNIMC, graduate students will be involved in a 20-hour international internship, working side-by-side with Italian academics. Students will also tour other Italian cities and universities, as well as regional landmarks and businesses. This education abroad course will present you with an unforgettable cultural and academic experience!
AcademicsStudents can either take HIED 664, a Master’s Level course or HIED 790, a Doctorate Level course entitled: “International Higher Education: Discovering Universities in the European Context.”
Each participant in this education abroad course will...
Learn about the history of Italy, including the history of higher education;
Develop an awareness and understanding of current and critical issues impacting higher education administrators and institutions in Italy;
Discuss and analyze how the current and critical issues in Italy compare and contrast to issues impacting higher education administrators and institutions in the U.S.; and
- Demonstrate and perfect his/her communication and group facilitation skills.
In addition to the academic aspect of the trip, which includes classwork and an internship, students are encouraged to get out and explore the city. Macerata is a hub of Italian culture, both ancient and modern, and there is no shortage of markets and monuments for students to enjoy.
Students on this program will be housed in residence halls located on the university campus or in hotels located near the university campus.
